Topic: Maranatha Romania Campmeeting, attacked during the night by a group of young local people
As you already know, on 12th-26th of July Maranatha Romania organised a TinServ in the locality where we sent and supported a missionary family. At the end of the TinServ, on Friday morning, around 2 o’clock, our camp composed by an average of 50 people, was awaken by a group of 6 persons who entered abusively the place where we had our camp. They entered by car, they switch on the music very loudly and started to shout that they would kill us, they would rape our girls etc. After two week of hard work, that was the first night when we did not settle orderly duty, so we all got up frightened without understanding what was going on. I tried to realise what was happening, I went directly to brother Marcel Tanase toward the car with those young people. I tried to talk to them, but it was useless. They asked for our girls, they wanted us to put on the fire and have a party.

During the conversation, they told me they were from Timisoara County, ex-prisoners for rape. All of them looked well trained, they showed me a knife and one of them told me that if he wanted, he could cut us into pieces. While talking to them, I was continuously praying, telling to the Lord: “Lord, there is no chances for you to leave us now, after two weeks when we saw your miracles; please do something, help us.” Eventually, after half of hour of useless discussion when I and Brother Marcel Tanase spoke very nicely and humbly with them, trying not to answer with violence, they left.

I thought that was all, but after 10 minutes they came back with two cars, around 10 persons and 2 girls. They were at the gate of our camp with baseball sticks in their hands and if I am not wrong, with an axe, too, ready to enter the camp. They were shouting again that they wanted to rape our girls and kill us.

Immediately, with 8 young people we kneeled at 30 m far away from them and started to pray. We heard the words: “what are they doing? Are they praying? Why are you praying? Are you afraid of us? We will kill you! Shout loudly to God, maybe He hears you.” As we prayed, for 10 minutes they did not come at our camp. I was looking at them and could see that they came close to the gate, and then they went back. When the last young man finished his prayer, immediately the gate was open and a young man came to me, greeted me and said: “I apologize in the name of all of us for what we have done to you, please forgive us, we are drunk”; and he left. I could hardly believe what I was hearing. In the very moment we finished our prayer he entered and apologized.

We thought that was the end, but again we were wrong. They came back with two cars, for the third time. They entered the camp directly; there were new people with them. One of them asked who the chief of the camp was. I answered it was me and he started to ask from me all kind of stupidities, like: 300 €, the papers of the campmeeting etc. Behind him two big men were standing there with baseball sticks in their hands. The situation became critical, they were ready to beat us because we came there to earn money and we have to pay them 300 €, so I had to call 122.

When they heard I called the police they left immediately. After some minutes, the police arrived. In 15 minutes the policeman indentified them and to our surprise all of them were local people. One of them was the headmaster’s son, another one was a neighbour of our missionary family, the most violent of them was a bodyguard in Timisoara, a girl was the ex-local priest’s daughter etc. After they had left, I was saying for myself: “Lord, if only I could meet them again to tell them about you and that you loved them…”

The next day we started to pray for them asking the Lord to make them missionaries. Afterwards, I went into the village to see two houses that I wanted to buy by faith in order to build the new church there. To my surprise, I met the car that visited us a night before. The car was in the middle of the road and I could not pass by. I was afraid not to beat me because I called the police. I started to drive back so that nobody could notice. But the Lord told me: “why are you leaving? Were not you the one who asked me for the opportunity to talk to them about me?” “Yes, Lord, but you know…” “Go and talk to them” was the stimulus.

It was not easy for me, but I stepped out of my car and entered the yard. The mother of one guy came to me and told me her son was sleeping with two other friends. This way I was relieved for not talking to them, I could not wake them up.

But the Lord insisted to stay and wake him up. I told that lady to wake her sun up because somebody was looking for him. When the door opened, I was shocked because that was the most violent boy from that night, the bodyguard from Timisoara. I apologized for calling the police. During the conversation, I asked him if he knew that God loved him. He said he knew. Afterw
